The Daily News

The Daily News is an American newspaper published in tabloid format. The paper is based in New York City and was the first U.S. newspaper to use a tabloid format. The paper is not related to the 19th-century New York Daily News that shut down in 1906. The current paper was launched in 1919, and was originally named the Illustrated Daily News before changing its name to the Daily News in 1922. The paper is currently owned by Independent News & Media SA.

The paper is widely recognized for its intense coverage of local events, as well as national and international news and politics. The newspaper also carries celebrity gossip and features on popular culture. The Daily News is also known for its sports sections, which focus on the Yankees, Mets, Giants, and Jets. In addition to its journalism, the newspaper provides a wide variety of classified ads and comics.

In addition to its printed edition, the Daily News has a website and several digital subscription options. The website offers a variety of articles and blogs, as well as live coverage of local events. The website is also home to the acclaimed Daily News podcast, which is available on Apple Podcasts, Google Play, and Spotify. The podcast covers a range of topics, from politics and public policy to celebrities and the latest in pop culture.

Each month, the Daily News releases an analysis of the major economic, political, and cultural stories of the day. The analysis includes links to other resources on the topic. The analysis is useful for students and teachers, as it provides a detailed summary of the week’s events. The Daily News also provides an editorial, which is not included in the analysis.

Daily News is a leading source of news and opinion about the world’s most important issues. The paper’s award-winning writers and columnists bring you news from America and around the globe, plus New York exclusives, entertainment, and opinions that no one else can match.

In 2021, an anonymous Yale alumnus provided funding for the upgrade and expansion of the Yale Daily News Historical Archive. This gift facilitated the transition to a new, more user-friendly platform and enabled the inclusion of issues from 1996 to present. The Library is grateful for this generous support. The Yale Daily News is the nation’s oldest college daily newspaper and has been financially and editorially independent since its founding on January 28, 1878. Throughout its long history, the News has been a forum for debate and discussion at Yale and beyond. Many of its alumni have gone on to prominent careers in journalism and public service, including William F. Buckley, Lan Samantha Chang, Joseph Lieberman, John Hersey, Sargent Shriver, and many more. The Yale Daily News publishes Monday through Friday during the academic year, and also produces special issues for Yale-Harvard Game Days and Commencement. The News is not affiliated with the New York Daily News, a rival that was founded in 1923.
