Entertaiment is any activity that provides recreation or amusement. It can be created by people in their leisure time, such as spontaneously inventing a game; it can be passively consumed, as when watching a film or reading a book; or it can be a product of industry, such as music, games, or sports. Entertainment may be escapist or provide positive social effects, but it can also promote negative social and environmental impacts. The word entertains is derived from the Latin intertenere, meaning “to hold inside,” and ten, which is a root of Indo-European words for hold, stretch, and retain. [1] T E News Fall 2011.
