Entertaiment refers to a variety of art forms such as theater, dance, music concerts, and comedy shows. These can be enjoyed at any scale, ranging from the individual who chooses to entertain himself/ herself with a pre-recorded product; to a dinner party accompanied by appropriate food and music; to an event intended for thousands. While the word is often associated with amusement, many entertainments have a deeper meaning or are designed to serve societal needs. This is the case with ceremonial events, religious festivals, and satire. The word entertaiment is derived from the Latin intertenere, a compound of the prefix ent- and the root word ten, which means to hold inside.
